Project 1.

1. mood board
2. Technical drawing

3. poster

My dad used to collect cup set so we always have more cups and saucers than we need. The problem was we ran out of space and I thought it would be good if we can stack the cups. That happened in the café that my parents own. The cups charges so much space and they were hard to stack because of the handle. So I designed this stackable cup set and tray. It will appeal to young people and a family who has children in primary and above. The whole point of having handle is to grab a cup drinking hot liquid. I get rid of the handle and made a holder made out of silicon so its easy to grab and also does not transfer the heat from the cup. When the cup is not being used, it can be used as a food container for nuts and lollies.
The container and the holder fits perfectly to the tray so it does not wobble when it is being carried but also it is easy to take out because they are getting narrower as it getting towards the bottom.

Yves Behar : Creating Objects That Tell Stories

Yves Behar is an amazing designer who can think out side of the box. He is not just a designer who cares about the external beauty

but see the whole and engage into the entire process. He refused to only design the skin of a keyboard and I wanted to be involved making entire unit.

Behar thinks out side of the box and bre

aks the boundary. His watch for mini cooper can be read from the either horizontal and vertical way. I thought it will be useful when someone asks for the time. Behar’s transforming furniture is also a very interesting design. it can be fold flat, into a coffee table and a chair. He designs an ordinary objects into clever object and it shows that how design can effect the ordinary life.

Behar’s experimentation of the design reaches everywhere. His design is for everyone including child, adult and even for people who can not afford designer brand. ‘one laptop for a child project’ shows that his values is not just on the beauty but it is one the global issues. The laptop is 100$ and it is made for children in developing countries.

Behar mentions about value a lot in this video. Behar fought against suppliers and  manufacturer for what he believes and never give up his design. He believes that if we ‘work together creating value keep in mind, it can change the work, company and the world’.

David Kelly : Human centred design

David Kelly : Human centred design

http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/david_kelley_on_human_centered_design.html

Founder of design studio IDEO David Kelly believes that products have been changing as the demands on market changes. The development of the technology and new materials allows designers idea make it real.

This video shows amazing thing can happen when technology and good design combines together. The Prada store in New York is the one of examples that the design meets with the need.  For the faster service, they have 3D scanners and detailed information about costumers is saved in the store. The changing room mirror that leaves 3 seconds of back view is the example of designs that meets with costumers requirement. If being able to see the back was the only purpose of the mirror, the store could have put a mirror on three dimensions, but this new mirror entertain the costumers by its new technology. 21century people live in the advanced technology and always looking for newer and updated product. The mirror specifies Prada from other shops and attracts costumers as well as give the good impression on the store. The design itself is for the costumers but Prada can get so much profit out of it.  New York Prada store is the place where everything is designed for people.

I thought invent or create a new thing is becoming harder and even impossible because there are so many designs are out there. However the new idea of the office cubicles  changed my thoughts. Boring and prison-like cubicles can be changed in to stylish and comfortable place by a good design. It taught me that pre-exist design also can be improved and just because it was like that for a long period of time, that does not mean that’s the best design.

The video show me the whole new way of how good designs make huge impact on world and people. knowing what people is key to the good design. Designers should be able updated and should have broad knowledge on every subject because design is everywhere, shops, museums, offices and even at the sea.
